Garden of Stone

from Frequencies by Sinclair Soul

/

about

The penultimate eleventh track on the 2023 Sinclair Soul album Frequencies.

lyrics

Waterfall cascading down
Refreshing bliss saturates the fringes of my crown,
Synthetic rocky mound
She gently rises up the mountain side
She beckons me to but I’d just as soon prefer to skip that ride
Swallowing my pride

I know you’ll wait (you’ll wait), I know you will
I know you’ll wait, because I know you well
Reflecting on the moment in this garden of stone
Appreciating where and when each one has been grown
Sitting alone recalling sweet memories of home
Conducting tones from the various bones
Emblazoned all around this garden of stone

Accordion roars at 99 decibels,
A searing cacophony that blasts every perception straight to hell
But it’s futile to try to quell
The rolling thunder keeps rumblin’ on down,
A soft energy which radiates throughout the sacred ground
As something steady and round

I found my place (my place) there at your dining hall table,
Cannot erase every historical fable
Still I recognize the treasure in this garden of stone
Appreciate the artistry in making a home,
A cherished zone to croon a variety of tones
Skeletal clones of the things that I’ve owned
Emblazoned everywhere

I recognize an Alamo may be in my future,
A chamber bereft of a single escape door
Oh, oh but nothing’s the same as it was before
And it will never be the same from now ‘til evermore,
Except in my core

Incalescence through the day, illumination at night
Once in a while a subtle, quenching breeze
Really makes it feel so right
As I wait for her to descend from beyond the trees
‘Though those trees seem so imposing at times,
Existing more than just to please
But the blues are the blues (I choose to sing the blues)
Why did I choose? (I choose to sing the blues, yeah)
Within this garden of stone
I planted my rock song so many years ago
Well, I was jaded and thrown but was far from the wrong
Those many years ago
Can she now see me in Nashville? (Yes she can)
Provide some brief in Asheville? (Yes she can!)
There are banners flying everywhere
(I really don’t know what they mean)
Do they symbolize joy or despair?
(Don’t really know what they mean!)
They are everywhere, waving in the air,
Is it joy or despair? Why should I care?
‘Cause I made it there on that lonely chair, another souvenir
Along the road we all must travel on

Waterfall cascading down,
Sink my feet in a murky, grimly puddle underground,
Some seven shades of brown

I know you’ll wait (you’ll wait), I know you will,
It’s not too late, for we’re still alive and well
If we recognize this moment in our garden of stone
Appreciate the lives upon which this has been grown
Never alone in reviving those memories of home
Everlasting tones, organically grown
Emblazoned everywhere
